  1. Jamie and I shared similar career trajectory – ship’s photographers with the Cruiseship Picture Company, then staff writers at Amateur Photographer magazine. But it wasn’t until Jamie joined me at What Digital Camera as Technical Editor that we got to work together. Jamie was a hard-working and talented writer but his considerable talents as a photographer did not become fully apparent to me until he left to go freelance. In my 18 years as an Editor at Europe’s biggest magazine publisher the only time I ever won the coveted Cover of the Month competition was when, in 2014, we ran one of Jamie’s superb photos on the cover of AP. It’s still one of my favourite covers to this day.
Although we met up a few times in Southend, in recent years most of our interactions were on Facebook, where his sharp intellect and disarming wit made him one of the most entertaining and engaging friends in my feed, and I enjoyed debating everything from music to politics. I’m so glad that I got to enjoy a beer with him at The Photography Show, just weeks before he passed, but I’m gutted that it was our last, and equally gutted that I can’t be here today to say goodbye to a great friend in person. Rest in peace, Jamie, and say hi to Elvis.
